“A mother’s arms are made of tenderness and children sleep soundly in them.” – Victor Hugo
We hospice workers have met a lot of mothers in our work and let me tell you; mothers are special people. They are loved deeply by their spouses, children and families. They are valued for the sacrifices they have made throughout their lives for the betterment of their loved ones. They are worthy to be honored on their special day in May. But truthfully, our gratitude for our mothers is an all-year thing. We just don’t take the time and effort to say it as often as we should.
Mothers have their own brand of “Spidey-sense” (that is the special sense possessed by Spider-Man to know things outside the realm of the natural).
Back when Sharon and I were dating, we were out riding bicycles on the back roads around their home. When coasting down a hill, something locked up in the front of my bike (it is still a mystery to me what exactly happened) and I flew head-first over the handlebars and onto the pavement. My watch hit the road and shattered into a hundred pieces and I received deep road rash up my arms. Sharon’s mother cleaned me up (boy, did that sting!) and covered my arms with bandages.
When I got home and told my mother about it, she said, “I knew something was wrong. I felt it.”
So, lest there be any doubt; that is proof that mothers are super-heroes!
Whether your mom is alive, or in Heaven; why not take some time this month to honor her with your thoughts, fond memories and where possible, a hug and an “I love you.” She deserves it.
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” – Proverbs 31:26-27
Happy Mothers Day.
Blessings,
Pastor Randy
